As we enter deeper into the cold and flu season, we can take accountability for our mindsets and the role they play in our physical health.

It can be easy to place blame on having a few too many drinks the night before or overextending ourselves during this Holiday season. What is an empowering way to be staying as ‘immune’ as possible to the ‘sicknesses’ around us?

Here in Sedona, energies are high and have been for centuries. Throughout these times it has been apparent to us here, as residents of this powerful ancient land, that our intentions and our mindsets are directly influencing our experiences in this reality. Plainly put, thoughts become things. What does this mean then if we are talking about how to keep our immunity strong? We get to bring our awareness to the strength that our thoughts and our words bring to the literal conversation. I was raised in a time where parents put on our jackets so that “we didn’t get sick” but what if that phrase was never said to you? Yes, we need warm jackets on when it’s cold outside of course. But, how much deeper does that phrase go into the knowing of our being? How much are we embodying the sicknesses of the world around us?

The truth is that we live in a world where self care is almost non-existent, people are struggling to find happiness in their love, job, or home. As we move deeper into this season where people so readily claim sicknesses I want to flip the script on you and ask you how, instead, you could be healing? Our bodies heal in times of advancement and upgrade. Our bodies rest when they are in deep rejuvenation. We see these patterns in the ways in which babies exist. They can only exist because they rest, without it they would die as they are growing so rapidly. When we find ourselves in this chaotic hustle and bustle of our everyday lives it is easy to see how so many get so run down and need time for their healing after the Holidays. Most of these people can be taking better care of themselves, all of us included. I say this not so that we can point at one another but simply take reflection of what our mindsets truly are.

Here are 3 things that you can do this Holiday Season to stay ‘above the weather’:

1) Get More Rest Than You Think

Rest promotes rejuvenation and the ability to manage stress. With all of the stressors during the holidays, extra rest can give your body the time and space to process everything. If you don’t allow for enough rejuvenation time under the right conditions, then when will your body get rest? Perhaps by the time you feel sick.

2) Choose Good Company

You are the culmination of who you surround yourself with. Regardless of the time of year or social gathering, you get to prioritize healthy relationships that promote your wellbeing. If you are not surrounding yourself with people who are helping you feel amazing, then you could have some honest conversations or find better people. They exist, and would likely love to meet you.

3) Speak About How You’re Feeling

Invite yourself into speaking aloud that you feel well and healthy. Say how happy you are or how sad you may really feel and let someone into the reality of how you’re truly feeling. Bring new affirmations and mantras into your life that can help you with this. If you don’t know any, they are searchable or you can create them by simply stating your highest intentions for yourself. Words are our greatest tools to create our realities. Speaking aloud can release pent up energy and help to manifest into the physical form.

Staying ‘above the weather’ takes more than physical maintenance. It takes the right mental attitude and wellness practices to cultivate a body and soul that is always ‘above the weather’. This is a practice and an art. What a wonderful time to lay foundations for a lifelong journey and experience in wellbeing.
